In this colorful 1948 photograph, amateur Chicago photographer, Charles W. Cushman, has captured a November day on Michigan Avenue … and a view of the city we can’t exactly see any more. Take a look at all that blue sky behind the Wrigley Building!
Cushman shot some 1,200 Kodachrome slides of midcentury Chicago – everything from streetscapes and buildings, to the many demolitions all over the city, to the parks, lake, and beaches, to trees and flowers, to cute children and pretty girls in swimsuits. The collection is online now and if you have never seen his work before, I highly recommend it for a colorful visit to Chicago of the mid-twentieth century.
And it looks like I’ll be spending the rest of my day looking at that website. Thanks for the recommendation!
A worthy use of time!
