An evocative six-minute film of early 1930s Chicago (origin unknown) that plays up the “city of superlatives.” Not only are we able to see some wonderful sites in the montage, like the old Soldier Field and the Century of Progress fairgrounds, we also get to hear about the unpretty gypsy girls at the Maxwell Street “ghetto” who will “try to sell you anything,” the “contented” cattle at the stockyards on their way to becoming “sirloin steaks,” and many other so-bad-they’re-good highlights.
